Alarm systems are also called burglar alarm systems

Alarm systems are solutions for detecting intrusions, unauthorized entrances, in a building or room. Security or alarm systems against burglary are used in residential, commercial, industrial and military facilities for protection against burglary (theft) or damage to property, as well as personal protection against intruders. Car Alarms are suitable for protecting vehicles and the interior of the vehicle. Alarm systems are also used to control prisoners.

Alarm systems are intended for a single purpose, namely to protect against burglary, in short, they offer anti-burglary protection; combined systems offer fire and intrusion protection. Burglar alarm systems can also be combined with surveillance cameras to automatically record the activities of intruders, and can serve as an interface to access control systems for e.g. electric door lock.

Systems range from small, isolated noisemakers, to complex, multi-area systems with computer monitoring and control.

When considering a new alarm system for your home or business space, you will no doubt want to consider the pros and cons of a wired system over wireless alarm systems.

Wired commercial and home alarm systems

Wired alarm systems are an older solution to these two, but they are still appropriate, commonly used systems. Wired alarm systems have cables that connect the control panel to the sensors and the sensors to the power source.

These were once considered the most reliable option of both systems. However, recent wireless technology is much more reliable and equals the same conditions.

Wireless burglar alarms for homes and businesses

It is worth mentioning that although the name indicates that the wireless alarm system is completely wireless, the control panel is connected to a power source - otherwise it would not work. The wireless part is played with sensors that communicate data to the control panel.

Today, wireless alarm systems are very popular, as compared to a wired system, it is considered that:

  • Installation time is shorter.
  • Modern wireless systems are now reliable enough to be practical.
  • They offer greater flexibility when moving homes or premises. Theoretically, you can take the system with you ...

Now to compare wired and wireless. When we go, we will help you decide on the winner!

Wired or wireless burglar alarms - tell me about installation?

While parts included in a wireless alarm system are usually more expensive, the working time required to install a wireless system is much less than wired. This means that the wireless system is faster to install and causes less disruption to home life or business activities.

Although wireless alarm systems have the cheapest installation costs, these savings can be reduced in larger features. The number of sensors needed for proper coverage depends on the size of your house or business premises and the number of rooms and / or levels that require protection.

Simple math, more equipment needed, the more expensive system costs become.

Nevertheless, in most cases, a wireless connection is a cheaper and faster option for both homes and commercial real estate. Wireless wins in this round.

Wireless 1 - 0 wired

DID YOU KNOW: Would installing an alarm system in your commercial property or at home reduce insurance premiums? This is because insurance companies recognize that the alarm system acts as a deterrent and that the risk of intrusion is often halved.

Which system is more flexible?

It is much easier to add an extension to a wireless alarm system compared to a wired counterpart. All we have to do is install a new sensor, program it into the system and the job is done. Wiring systems are much more complex, as wiring limitations and complications are inevitable.

In your home, it is usually not advisable to run the cable from the control panel to the farthest corner of the room. A similar story is in business premises, a remote corner of the factory may not require wide wiring. There is a trade-off between the amount of cables and the optimal position of the sensors.

In contrast, a wireless system allows a home or business owner to have detectors in even hard-to-reach locations because wiring is not an issue. Obstacles such as high shelves or machines are no longer complicated.

You can also easily disconnect and remove wireless equipment due to maintenance work on your property. And, of course, upgrading equipment is a simple process of replacing an old sensor with a new one.

So in terms of flexibility we have to go wireless, 2-0!

Wireless 2 - 0 wired

Which system is cheaper in the long run?

Wireless burglar alarms require a constant cost of sensor replacement batteries. That adds up in the long run.

Despite the more disruptive process of installing a wired alarm system, once the wires are turned on, they are already fine. Even if you decide to upgrade the system, you can reuse existing cables. It is important to remember ...

Note that regular maintenance is maintained in good condition. Whatever system you choose, maintenance will miss the need to replace equipment while reducing running costs. Just like your car, your alarm system needs to be serviced to help you identify and prevent problems that could be behind your arm and leg.

Such a wire can pull one back - this comparison is not bleaching!

Wireless 2 - 1 wired

Are there many different systems to suit my family and business needs?

Most certainly! Whether you need house-friendly alarms that your fluffy friend won’t trigger, or a zonal alarm system that protects the nursery so you can do housework carefree, there’s a wired or wireless home alarm system for you!

Zone alarm systems are not just for home real estate;
medium and large companies may want the facility to set up an alarm and close stockpiles, while later workers or cleaners should let the rest of the building travel carefree.

You can’t separate them by diversity, so there’s every point.

Wireless 3 - 2 wired

Which system is more reliable - wired or wireless intruder alarms?

A few years ago, you would have been told that a wired alarm system is a more reliable option. But now both systems are reliable enough - with one caveat. Wireless systems require that the equipment be at a certain distance from the control panel and other devices to maintain connectivity.

Wireless systems, like Wifi routers, are still subject to interference, which can cause sensors to respond unpredictably, but this is rare. Electromagnetic interference comes from baby monitors, remote controls, power lines and fluorescent lighting. While structural disturbances are caused by walls, floors and ceilings.

Concerns about signal interference have generally been addressed by leading manufacturers as wireless technology has advanced.

As part of the  status,  we only need to supply quality products. We only use industry-leading manufacturers so that your security system never breaks down when you need it.

Obviously, none of these problems are a problem with a wired system. If something goes wrong, the wired alarm parts are easier to enter.

It is close, but the wire edges are and draws a level.

Wireless 3 - 3 wired

Does wiring or wireless affect police response?

No, police response can be achieved in any system.

However, your alarm will need to meet specific requirements before police can agree to respond to your alarm activation.

So it’s a draw when we enter our final round!

Wireless 4 - 4 wired

Someone told me that wireless intruder alarms are more aesthetically pleasing?

Everyone at Blake Fire & Security Systems is very proud of our tidy and orderly installations - whether wired or wireless burglar alarm systems. With professional installation, your home or business decoration will not spoil. However, a wireless system usually provides a nicer finish, as there are obviously fewer wires to cover up.

So it’s a late winner for Wireless 4-3!

Wireless 5 - 4 wired

Did you know: Although you may have a wireless burglar alarm system for your home, wireless CCTV systems are not viable for most home properties. This is because wireless cameras use more power to transmit data wirelessly and batteries cannot withstand voltage - they need to be replaced too often. Wired is the only option in CCTV.

So the winner is ... wireless burglar alarms ... is he?

If you were looking for a quick answer, we will unfortunately disappoint you. Although wireless wins at points, it’s really about setting up your property, the needs of your family or business, and of course your budget. Unfortunately, this comparison is not conclusive!

There are two options for a reason - both have their advantages and disadvantages, but they may not be the right choice for a neighbor. It all depends on your situation.

Wired systems usually correspond to smaller properties or new constructions where cabling is no less. In contrast, wireless systems are favorable in spaces and buildings where, for example, the appearance of buildings is critical. Again, this is not final!
